Computer Assistance

For the benefit of U3A members who have problems with their computers and software, a panel of volunteers have agreed to provide email assistance to answer basic questions about software.

This panel does not take the place of our excellent computer classes which people new to computing are urged to attend. Rather it is a Question-and-Answer service which may form the basis of a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) segment on our web page and newsletter. All queries will remain anonymous.

You may email the volunteer of your choice from the list below and they will do their best to answer your question. Their areas of experience (Windows, web browsers, Email software, office suites, and others) are listed to help you select the person most likely to be able to help you.

Because this notice can be read by anybody using the Internet, and because we offer this service only to our members, you MUST quote your U3A registration number with your query.

It would be of assistance if you also quoted the name and version of the software you are using (eg, Windows XP or MS Office 2003).

Apple-Macintosh users will be pleased to know that Julie Newman has volunteered to answer questions in that specialised area.

Jim Percy summed it up by saying, "My approach is to say I can answer queries of a general nature and if I don't know the answer I will research and (hopefully) find the answer - with no guarantees." I think the same thing will apply to all the volunteers.
