Would you like to use your own photographs as a screen saver? In XP it's easy! (Sorry, I haven't used Vista so I can't help there.)
First, minimise all your open programs so that your Desktop is left clear of everything except the icons you normally keep there. Now, place your mouse pointer anywhere on the Desktop and right click. In the dialogue box that appears, click "Screen Saver".
Half way down, below "Screen Saver" will be a highlighted box. Click the down arrow at the right hand side to view the menu of available screen savers. Select "My Pictures Slideshow". At this point, click on "Settings".
Now you will see a new dialogue box with a window which will allow you to browse your computer and select the folder you prefer to use for your slide show. If you select "My Pictures" then all your photographs will cycle their way through the screen saver. If you select a particular folder then only that one will show. I found it useful to create a new folder called "Screen Savers" to which I copied those images I wanted to use on the screen saver. It's a personal choice so you can please yourself.
While you're still in this dialogue box you will also have the opportunity to set the speed of the display—I used the default six seconds—and the size. You can also opt to stretch small photos (not a good idea), show the file names, allow transition effects between pics, and allow scrolling with the keyboard (by using the "arrow" navigation keys).
It's a whole lot more personal than using a commercial screen saver and very pleasant to see your favourite snapshots cycling on the screen.
