Under the heading, Fun for Young and Old,, relating to the Werrington Festival, the Western Weekender this week published a photograph of Noel Borland's U3A Pencil Drawing Class.
The article reads in part: Werrington County will come alive this weekend with fun and excitement this weekend when the Namatjira Neighbourhood Centre hosts the Werrington Festival. To be held on Sunday, May 17, the festival will run from 10.00am to 4.00pm. With the theme "Youth, Seniors and Families" there will be a range of entertainment activities for people of all ages... This year the festival is being run in partnership with the Seniors' Arts and Crafts Group and will feature a Seniors Arts and Crafts Expo to showcase the talent and skills of older members of the community. The rest of the article deals with the festival itself, which is taking place as I write. You may read it on Page 28 of the Weekender dated May 16. It is also in their on-line edition. The Werrington Festival wasn't the only reference to Noel Borland in the Weekender. He was also given an award for his military service. The article reads as follows:
Federal Member for Lindsay, David Bradbury, recognised the sacrifice, dedication and service of four former Defence Force personnel at a recent Australian Defence Medal presentation at the Penrith RSL. I would like to congratulate William Blackie of Kingswood, Noel Borland of Cambridge Park, Glenn Sing of Emu Plains, and Craig Watson of Emu Plains, on being awarded the Australian Defence Medal for their service to the Australian Defence Forces,” Mr Bradbury said. The four men served our country in an array of different roles in the Australian Army:
It is important we recognise the contribution that the men and women of the Australian Defence Forces make each day to keep our nation safe," Mr Bradbury said. The Australian Defence Medal was established to recognise current and former Australian Defence Force Regular and Reserve personnel, Volunteer and National Servicemen, who have served four years, completed an enlistment period or re-enlisted since the end of the Second World War. I encourage all former ADF personnel who may be eligible for an Australian Defence Medal to contact their local branch of the RSL or the Department of Defence for an application form. I would also like to thank the special guests present at the Medal presentation, Lieutenant Colonel Tara Bucknall, Commanding Officer of the 5th Combat Engineer’s Regiment, Penrith City Mayor, Cr Jim Aitken, State Member for Penrith, Karyn Paluzzano and State Member for Londonderry, Allan Shearan as well as the family and friends of the recipients for taking time out from their busy days to help celebrate this occasion." |
