Emu Plains Neighbourhood Centre is holding a fun day on Saturday 2nd May.
I would like to ask anyone who does Tai Chi to come and join me as a group. I would even like beginners to do up to where they are and just stop and let the others go on. This offer is extended to the Fan group, the Staff group, the Tai Chi Practice group and if Marie Stewart and any of her Tai Chi groups would like to join in, or do their own thing. It starts at 11am and there will be a Bar-B-Q and other fun activities on display.

U3A Bus Trip Wednesday 3 June 2009
First stop today will be Erina for a visit to St Fiacre Distillery. Take a deep breath at the front gate; relax your mind as we slip into a green and fragrant land. Morning tea will be served in the garden café. Afterwards enjoy a stroll in the gardens to take in the fragrance, and a tour of the distillery with a tasting of the Australian liqueurs. We then travel on to Wyong and the Strathavon Heritage Resort, a grand stately manor filled with atmosphere and history of a bygone era. Here we will partake in a 1930’s style luncheon menu, one of those yummy meals of yesteryear. We will also enjoy a “Skeletons in the Closet” family history presentation by a historian. Ever wondered about your family history? Discover who you really are! Today will be your chance to see what you can find out.
Cost for this most informative and interesting day out will be $55.00 per person. The coach will depart from Panthers at 8am. The final date for payment, providing seats are not sold out, will be Friday 22 May, 2009.

Office Computer on Broadband and New Email Address
We now have Broadband on our Office Computer. This means that the Internet works much faster and we can use the telephone at the same time as someone is on the Internet sending or reading emails. It used to take two hours to send out 500 Email Newsletters on the old Dial-up system. It took an hour to send out the Newsletters last month mainly because of faulty email addresses. However, with a bit of refinement, we hope that it will only take 15 minutes this month.
Remember and send us an email if you change your email address because faulty email addresses slow the whole process down enormously and remember our new email addresses are: u3anepean@optusnet.com.au and u3anepoff@optusnet.com.au
Newsletters:
The closing date for submissions to the monthly Email Newsletter is one week before the end of each month. However, if you miss the date, your submission will go in the following month’s newsletter – if I remember. Submissions should be sent to the Office – Attention Curriculum Convener or preferably emailed to alanlees@y7mail.com
Next Committee Meeting
The next Committee Meeting will be held at the Penrith School of Arts at 1.30pm on Tuesday
12 May, 2009.

BLAXLAND GEM & MINERAL CLUB
The Valley Rd, off the Highway and opposite Valley Heights Station
MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY OF THE LOWER BLUE MOUNTAINS COMBINE TO PROVIDE UNIVERSITY OF THE THIRD AGE, NEPEAN & BLUE MOUNTAINS CHAPTER, STUDENTS WITH AN INTRODUCTION TO LAPIDARY
Members of the Blaxland Gem & Mineral Club are providing senior members of the community with the knowledge and skills to make their own jewellery. At the start of the course, students become members of The Blaxland Gem & Mineral Club and, following the course, can continue to develop their skills further in a wider range of techniques. The Club, in the Valley Road Valley Heights, has facilities for members of all ages to cut and polish gem stones they might find on Club field trips. These trips are organised regularly to known deposits of gem stone material. e.g. quartz, prase, agate, sapphires, opals etc.
With the comprehensive range of equipment available to members, it is possible, under the guidance of skilled instructors, to design a piece of jewellery then work from rough gems found on field trips through a series of processes including cutting, shaping and polishing to the finished piece. This allows them to design and wear, or display, their own gem set within a piece of jewellery completed entirely by their own hand. Members may also undertake to learn silvercraft and even facet their own gem stones.
If fossicking on field trips does not appeal then rough gem material can be obtained from the Club. An alternative to jewellery making is creating a free form object inspired by the natural colours and formations within the rock.
The Club is holding an Open Day on Saturday 2nd May from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.
We are inviting visitors to view show cases of members’ work, observe demonstrations of cutting, polishing and faceting gem stones and the art of silvercraft. They may, if they wish, buy an interesting rough slab or a piece made by a member of the club.
You will receive a friendly welcome and our specialist instructors and experienced club members will be on hand to answer your questions regarding Club activities, the gems and minerals on display and the variety of methods and techniques available to budding jewellery makers. This will be of interest to all age groups.
The Blaxland Gem & Mineral Club is based in The Valley Road, off the Highway and opposite Valley Heights Station. It will be clearly sign-posted and a large car park is close by. There is no admission charge.
